Urban Life Unscripted: Portraits in City Parks

Course Code: 25MOEPO009I

Dates: July 19-20, 2025

Meets: Sa and Su from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM ET

Location: ICP (84 Ludlow Street)

Course Tuition: $430

This weekend workshop transforms iconic parks into live studios for photographing authentic human moments. In Central Park and Prospect Park, we find a convergence of diverse groups doing their own thing: playing music or sports, reading, sunbathing, people-watching. Here, students explore how to approach strangers and create compelling portraits. From toddlers to elders, stories of urban life emerge, as we focus on creative techniques and the subtle dynamics between photographer and subject. The course concludes with a critique, during which we reflect on each participant’s experience and review our images.

Course Level / Prerequisite: Open to all skill levels. Students ranging from beginner to experienced will be successful in classes that are Open to All Skill Levels.

Students are encouraged to review ICP's Classroom Disclaimer for current information regarding COVID-19 policies, classroom guidelines, and more. These policies are subject to change at anytime.

Courses are subject to minimum enrollment. Please register early, within five days of the start-date, to reduce the likelihood of course cancellation and to ensure you receive all course-related materials in time to prepare for class.
