This course examines how artists have engaged with the ebb and flow of daily life as fodder and inspiration for their artistic practices from the 1960s to present day. Students study current and past artistic trends which include how historical artists utilized their daily encounters to produce art, in contrast and in conjunction with contemporary artists whose work at times is produced through a more digital, physically removed, lens. Through in-class discussions structured to pull apart the minutiae and importance of the routine, students will learn how art of the everyday can be used to empower personal moments of creative growth.
