This visual storytelling course will focus on exploring the intersection of innovative technologies such as synthetic images and Artificial Intelligence (AI) applied to visual storytelling. Through a combination of lectures, hands-on exercises, and project-based learning, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the creative possibilities and ethical considerations involved in using these tools to craft compelling narratives.Over the course of the program, participants will work on developing and producing a visual storytelling project using traditional photographic mediums as well as incorporating synthetic images and generative AI. Students will learn how to leverage these technologies to enhance their storytelling abilities, while also grappling with questions around representation, authenticity, and the ethical implications of using AI-generated content.Throughout the course, participants will have the opportunity to engage with industry experts and peers, receiving feedback and guidance on their projects as they refine their skills and explore the boundaries of applying emerging technologies to their practice. By the end of the program, participants will have completed a project that showcases innovative techniques and their ability to navigate the complex landscape of contemporary storytelling with the aid of synthetic images and AI.
Course Level / Prerequisite: Intermediate: You are familiar with a camera, whether film or digital. You understand aperture, shutter speed, exposure, white balance, histograms, and how to control focus. You are comfortable editing and processing your images. You may want to learn how to utilize your camera in a more thoughtful and articulate way, or learn more about lighting or how to utilize theoretical concepts in relation to your portfolio of work.
