This course is designed to empower working artists with concrete, practical, and highly usable skills and techniques from high-end photography that can be applied to a contemporary photo practice. We explore light and its successful uses for the modern photographer. We examine innovative ways to use both natural and artificial light in our changing landscape through in-class lectures and assignments. Students learn to capitalize on these techniques to find new ways to incorporate them into their work. This course is limited to 10 students.

Course Level / Prerequisite: Intermediate: You are familiar with a camera, whether film or digital. You understand aperture, shutter speed, exposure, white balance, histograms, and how to control focus. You are comfortable editing and processing your images. You may want to learn how to utilize your camera in a more thoughtful and articulate way, or learn more about lighting or how to utilize theoretical concepts in relation to your portfolio of work.

Note: Students will be required to purchase (or already have on-hand) lighting equipement for this class. Please refer to the class prep section for more information. Adobe Lightroom is recommended but not required for the class.

Courses are subject to minimum enrollment. Please register early, within five days of the start-date, to reduce the likelihood of course cancellation and to ensure you receive all course-related materials in time to prepare for class.
