This course is designed for photographers interested in exploring the art of wedding photography. Whether you dream of photographing weddings professionally or simply want to strengthen your portrait and storytelling skills, this class offers an immersive, behind-the-scenes look at one of photography’s most rewarding and challenging genres.
Drawing on more than 20 years of experience photographing weddings throughout New York City, Barbara Torres will share the artistic and practical techniques she uses to create timeless, authentic images. Through a mix of controlled in-studio sessions and dynamic outdoor practical exercises, students will master lighting, posing, composition, and still-life photography across diverse environments. You will learn how to read ambient and artificial light, anticipate fast-moving moments, and create an atmosphere where subjects feel relaxed enough to reveal genuine emotion—giving you the versatile skills needed to navigate any wedding setting.Course Level / Prerequisite: Intermediate: You are familiar with a camera, whether film or digital. You understand aperture, shutter speed, exposure, white balance, histograms, and how to control focus. You are comfortable editing and processing your images. You may want to learn how to utilize your camera in a more thoughtful and articulate way, or learn more about lighting or how to utilize theoretical concepts in relation to your portfolio of work.

Required Equipment: Please bring a working DSLR or mirrorless camera with manual controls, along with a fresh, fully charged battery and formatted memory card.
Lighting Notebook: Bring a dedicated notebook or sketchpad to document lighting setups, diagrams, and key takeaways during in-studio lighting demonstrations. Inspiration Assignment: For the first class, bring 3–5 wedding photographs (digital or printed) that inspire you. Select images whose visual style, mood, or lighting you are eager to learn how to replicate.
