Sensing the Edge: Queer and Feminist Photographic Archives (Online)

Course Code: 26SOEPV053V

Dates: March 16-30, 2026

Meets: M from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM ET

Location: Online Zoom Classroom

Course Tuition: $95

Oriented toward imagemakers seeking an alternative photographic “canon,” this course explores the histories and practices of image practitioners foundational to an inclusive queer and feminist photographic archive. We examine, dissect, and discuss interdisciplinary practices in lens-based imagemaking, including: self-portraiture, collage, video, alternative process photography, performance art, writing, and more. Each class explores what happens when we confront the ever-domineering “edge” of an image—a boundary that has been strictly defined by those in power throughout time—as we challenge the modernist frameworks of viewing The Artist as God, and instead, consider rewriting history in terms of The Artist as Person.

Course Level / Prerequisite: Open to all skill levels. Students ranging from beginner to experienced will be successful in classes that are Open to All Skill Levels.

Courses are subject to minimum enrollment. Please register early, within five days of the start-date, to reduce the likelihood of course cancellation and to ensure you receive all course-related materials in time to prepare for class.
