Retracing Berenice Abbott's New York

Working from Berenice Abbott's iconic project 'Changing New York,' students will photograph in multiple sites at the specific locations Abbott photographed in the 1930's, studying through their own camera how the cityscape has changed---or stayed the same. There will be two critique classes for students to share work at ICP. Examples of Abbott's work, as well as instruction in how to best photograph architecture and the cityscape, will be included in each class.

Course Level / Prerequisite: Advanced: You are comfortable with your camera, whether film or digital, and with your photographic practice. You have already produced or are working on a body of work. You are proficient in Adobe applications such as Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere, et cetera. You understand printing or portfolio revision processes. You may be seeking ways to strengthen your work through sequencing, theoretical readings, and group critiques.
