In this creative and fun workshop, students will learn how to produce unique photogram photographic prints using the traditional cyanotype process. Cyanotypes print in a range of blues and can also be toned to various other colors as well. Cyanotype photograms are pictures produced without a camera. They are created by placing objects such as leaves, flowers, objects, or other items on paper sensitized with cyanotype emulsion and exposing the paper to ultraviolet light. Prints can also be created with drawings done on translucent material that can be used as a negative for printing. There is a lot of room for experimentation on! Traditional cyanotype printing techniques will be taught mixing the emulsion, brush coating on watercolor papers, learning about exposures, and developing our prints in the darkroom. Various toning options for changing the final print color will also be introduced. The combination of cyanotypes and photograms is beautiful, very affordable, easy to learn, and is a solid introduction to the world of alternative process photography in general. This course is limited to 12 students.
