Family Workshop Series: Working with Objects, Memory, and Light Through Photograms
Course Code: 26MMGAP000IDates: August 15, 2026
Meets: Sa from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM ET
Location: ICP (84 Ludlow Street)
Baseline Tuition: $200
This multigenerational workshop invites participants of all ages—from pre-teens to adults—to collaboratively explore the magic of cameraless photography. Families, friends, and chosen families are encouraged to enroll together,* making this a rare opportunity to work side by side across generations while sharing stories, memories, and creative ideas. The workshop is designed to create a shared learning environment where people from different generations can exchange ideas and make images together.
Using light-sensitive paper and everyday objects, participants learn how to create photograms, which are images made by placing objects directly onto photographic paper and exposing them to light. Through guided demonstrations and hands-on experimentation, the workshop introduces the fundamentals of composition, transparency, layering, and the relationship between light and shadow.
Participants are encouraged to bring small personal objects, keepsakes, or meaningful items from home to incorporate into their photograms. These objects may hold personal or family significance, allowing participants to transform treasured belongings into photographic impressions while sharing stories across generations. By the end of the workshop, participants will have created a series of unique photograms while experiencing the creative possibilities of working together across age groups.
*Note: Each registration counts for two participants; you and ONE guest. Participants aged 10 years or older are welcome to this workshop.
