Continuous Lighting for Still Images & Video

This hands-on course explores professional lighting techniques using LED panels, tungsten fixtures, cinema lights, and other continuous light sources for photography, video, and editorial productions.

Through lectures, live demonstrations, and studio-based exercises, students will develop a strong foundation in shaping and controlling continuous light for a variety of creative applications, including environmental portraiture, editorial photography, interviews, podcast production, and cinematic visual storytelling. Topics include light quality, direction, color temperature, contrast, modifier selection, and creating lighting setups that translate seamlessly across both still and moving image workflows.

Working with professional lighting equipment and guest models, participants will learn how to build expressive lighting scenarios that enhance narrative, establish mood, and confidently adapt to a range of production environments. By the end of the course, students will have the technical skills and creative confidence to incorporate continuous lighting into their own photographic and video practices.

Course Level / Prerequisite: Intermediate: You are familiar with a camera, whether film or digital. You understand aperture, shutter speed, exposure, white balance, histograms, and how to control focus. You are comfortable editing and processing your images. You may want to learn how to utilize your camera in a more thoughtful and articulate way, or learn more about lighting or how to utilize theoretical concepts in relation to your portfolio of work.
