Course Code: 25MTAPV002I

Dates: July 21 - August 1, 2025

Meets: M, Tu, W, Th and F from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM ET

Location: ICP (84 Ludlow Street)

Course Tuition: $1,500

This two-week, in-person intensive will build students’ knowledge of climate change research, organizing, and how to develop a visual story that shares your or other peoples’ experiences of climate change and extractive economies.
Students will engage with artworks in the Edward Burtynsky exhibition that will be on view at ICP this summer. Guests will range from artists making work about climate change to climate researchers and campaign organizers. Students will learn about campaigns at the local and national level while also considering their personal experiences and stories of climate change in their community.
During the course, students will learn or refresh on digital photography basics and experiment with ways to share their work with a public audience. Some techniques for sharing their work could include: photocopied zines, projections, social media, and postcards, among others.
Students will visit exhibitions and installations on the topic in addition to meeting guest artists. Field trips may range from gallery visits to climate campaign sites.
