This NYC-based program series will introduce students to the rich and vast cultural offerings in New York City in the form of art galleries and museums. Galleries and museums for the class will be selected based on the current exhibition schedules at that time. Selections will include a wide range and include multiple areas of the city accessible by public transportation. Students will be exposed and learn to speak to contemporary art as presented in these galleries and museums. Between sessions, students will be prompted to make photographic work using camera phones that responds to the art they saw and discussions they had in the previous week. The program has a goal of demystifying these white box gallery spaces and to help students consume art as a means of further developing and enriching their practices. Section 1 of this class will take place on Fridays from July 11th-July 25th, 2025. This section will prioritize wheelchair accessible art spaces. For further accessibility questions or requests, please contact [email protected] Galleries and museums visited in sections 1 & 2 will have little if any overlap. Students are invited to sign up for both sections as space is available.

Need-based scholarships are available for all Teen Academy classes. To apply, please visit: https://www.icp.org/school/teen-academy.
