Despite being contested sites for gender nonconformity, public streets contain traces of LGBTQIA+ history. In this workshop, participants retrace the queer geographies of working-class emigrant histories in Queens, New York City’s most culturally diverse borough. From pre-Stonewall cabarets to late-1990s mainstays that remain open to the public, this workshop revives a queer constellation flickering in and out of public cognition. Participants can photograph themselves in front of these sites to safely and creatively engage directly with these histories, document each visited site in a traditional manner, or develop a visual poetic approach with help from the instructor.

Course Level / Prerequisite: Open to all skill levels. Students ranging from beginner to experienced will be successful in classes that are Open to All Skill Levels.
