Maintaining a Sustainable Photography Practice in an Ever-Changing World

The media landscape is in constant flux. Having a long-term, sustainable documentary photography practice is a goal many of us hope to attain. Yet the fact remains that only a few of us will succeed in the world today as visual storytellers. Understanding where our work fits in an evolving industry is essential to reaching our goals and maintaining our relevance. Through class exercises, discussions, and critiques, students gain practical tools and a deeper understanding of how to sustainably reach their goals as visual storytellers.

Course Level / Prerequisite: Intermediate: You are familiar with a camera, whether film or digital. You understand aperture, shutter speed, exposure, white balance, histograms, and how to control focus. You are comfortable editing and processing your images. You may want to learn how to utilize your camera in a more thoughtful and articulate way, or learn more about lighting or how to utilize theoretical concepts in relation to your portfolio of work.
