Rituals in Motion: Performance Art’s Journey into the Occult (Online)

For more than a century, occult concepts have been portrayed in everyday and popular art forms, including performance art, film, and photography. Students in this course undertake weekly reading assignments on the subject while reflecting on these portrayals and unraveling their hidden meanings. We actively explore the concept of occultism across various mediums by crafting and presenting our assignments through critiques during five sessions. You are encouraged to present work in the form of photography, video, and live performance.

Course Level / Prerequisite: Advanced: You are comfortable with your camera, whether film or digital, and with your photographic practice. You have already produced or are working on a body of work. You are proficient in Adobe applications such as Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere, et cetera. You understand printing or portfolio revision processes. You may be seeking ways to strengthen your work through sequencing, theoretical readings, and group critiques.
