This seminar is designed to provide participants with a deeper knowledge of the history of photography and the language of image-making. Through production and reflection, we deepen our knowledge of photography, explore “reading” photographs and refine our ability to critique work with clarity. Through weekly readings, we extend our ability to articulate when speaking about a diverse array of work, including our own. Participants read short texts by Hilton Als, Robert Adams, and bell hooks, among others, that address photography’s multiple histories through a widened lens. A guest speaker will join the class for one session.
Prerequisite: Open to All Skill Levels: Students ranging from beginner to experienced will be successful in classes.
