Within every color lies a hidden history. By understanding the cultural, emotional, and psychological meaning of individual colors, we can learn to read color photographs more deeply. From the danger and desire of red in William Eggleston's The Red Ceiling (1973) to the heightened emotional worlds of Cig Harvey's color-driven images, students learn to decode color as language and use it intentionally to create meaning within their own work. Each week, a lecture focuses on an individual color, and students are encouraged to photograph that color for the next class.
Course Level / Prerequisite: Open to all skill levels. Students ranging from beginner to experienced will be successful in classes that are Open to All Skill Levels.
Courses are subject to minimum enrollment. Please register early, within five days of the start-date, to reduce the likelihood of course cancellation and to ensure you receive all course-related materials in time to prepare for class.
