The cyanotype process was first introduced in 1842 and is still widely used today by artists and photographers. Producing a rich prussian blue, it involves simple chemistry that is affordable, readily available, and easy to experiment with in many creative ways. Participants will learn how to make enlarged digital negatives from digital image files, mix chemistry that is applied to artists’ papers, and print handmade unique final cyanotype prints in the wetlab. Toning prints in colors besides blue will be optional. Students will leave the workshop with a variety of final prints and the knowledge to continue printing with the cyanotype process on their own. This course is limited to 12 students.
