They say a picture is worth a thousand words. And today, we have the tools to expand from a single image to create visual-led micro documentaries that can be even more powerful than an image alone. In this intermediate-level workshop, students will use the tools that they have in hand to combine video, audio, images, and text into compelling narratives. Drawing inspiration from individual creators and the media, students will expand upon their existing work or start anew. Through assignments and critiques, students will learn how to capture audio and video assets with their smartphones; storyboard their mini documentaries; select and sequence video clips; and incorporate audio and text. A guest creator and producer will share how they are using micro documentaries to tell their own engaging stories, as the students prepare to share theirs. The course culminates in a final presentation for family and friends in which the students will share their micro documentaries.

Prerequisite: This is an intermediate course. To participate, students must have completed a Photo I digital course or its equivalent as approved by ICP staff. Intermediate courses require some experience with photography and/or video and for students to be comfortable with their camera and editing images.

Need-based scholarships are available for all Teen Academy classes. To apply for a scholarship, use the registration link here.
