Your own photographic archives hold projects waiting to be developed: images you shot years ago while on vacation, working on another project, or even by mistake. Unmoored from their history, these images can reveal ideas that you didn't realize your subconscious was already developing. At times, we are not able to shoot new images; yet if we have pictures, we have projects waiting to form. This course mines the images we have already taken for a new project. This course mines the images we have already taken for a new project but leaves room to shoot and add new work where appropriate. This course is limited to 10 students.

Note: Students must have a personal archive of photographs to work with and, ideally, the ability to work in Adobe Lightroom or another program that allows you to create a collection and move images within that section while viewing them in grid or contact-sheet mode. To start a free trial for Adobe, visit Adobe.com.

Course Level / Prerequisite: Intermediate: You are familiar with a camera, whether film or digital. You understand aperture, shutter speed, exposure, white balance, histograms, and how to control focus. You are comfortable editing and processing your images. You may want to learn how to utilize your camera in a more thoughtful and articulate way, or learn more about lighting or how to utilize theoretical concepts in relation to your portfolio of work.

Courses are subject to minimum enrollment. Please register early, within five days of the start-date, to reduce the likelihood of course cancellation and to ensure you receive all course-related materials in time to prepare for class.

In preparation for the class put please put 15 - 40 images into a Mining Intro Collection in Adobe Lightroom. The images can be something you were thinking you might like to work on or just images that you like - no need to have a reason for including them except that they interest you or are talking to you in some way. Sometimes images you find yourself photographing for no obvious reason are a project waiting to develop.
