In this open-level course, students explore different photographic techniques that activate the imagination and pursue alternative futures. Surrealism has influenced many cultures and sparked cultural movements around the world. Through assignments, critiques, and class discussions, students will gain exposure to a diverse range of artists practicing surrealism as well as explore a variety of digital and analog collaging tools to incorporate into their own projects.

Open to all skill levels. Students ranging from beginner to experienced are welcome.
All winter 2021 classes will be held online.
Keisha Scarville is a lens-based and mixed media artist based in Brooklyn, New York. She is an instructor at ICP, as well as an adjunct faculty member at Parsons School for Design.
ICP’s Teen Academy program welcomes teenagers ages 14–19 from across the country and around the world to develop their skills as leaders and visual storytellers in a range of online classes. All curricula is youth-centered and includes: photographic and writing assignments, digital open lab time, visual presentations, discussions, critiques, a virtual field trip, a guest artist visit, and a culminating presentation for family and friends celebrating the students’ achievements.

Students should have access to Adobe Photoshop as well as to a smartphone, DSLR or mirrorless camera, or digital point-and-shoot camera to complete assignments. Students receiving a scholarship will be provided with access to the necessary software to complete the course.
