In this course for intermediate imagemakers, students will be introduced to various photo-enhancing techniques to strengthen their images and develop a body of work. Students will focus on developing their personal style and create a signature look in their work. Technical lessons will include experimenting with phone apps, Adobe Lightroom, and Adobe Photoshop. Class time will be spent engaging in photo assignments, community building activities, and visual literacy. In-class critiques will help to strengthen each photographer’s vision, aesthetic, theme, and style of their portfolio.

Jaime Schlesinger is a freelance photographer and has been a lead faculty and museum educator with ICP for sixteen years. Her teaching pedagogy creates a safe and supportive classroom environment, fosters creativity, and hones in on conceptual and technical approaches to portfolio development. IG: @jnsphoto
ICP’s Teen Academy program welcomes teenagers ages 14–19 from across the country and around the world to develop their skills as leaders and visual storytellers in a range of online classes. All curricula is youth-centered and includes: photographic and writing assignments, digital open lab time, visual presentations, discussions, critiques, a virtual field trip, a guest artist visit, and a culminating presentation for family and friends celebrating the students’ achievements.

Students should have access to Adobe Lightroom (on phone app or on computer) and Photoshop as well as to a smartphone, DSLR or mirrorless camera, or digital point-and-shoot camera to complete assignments. Students receiving a scholarship will be provided with access to the necessary software to complete the course.
