Course Code: 25MOEDP003IDates: June 7, 2025
Meets: Sa from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM ET
Location: ICP (84 Ludlow Street)
Course Tuition: $310
Explore the transformative power of collage, appropriation, and image intervention in this thought-provoking course that delves into how these strategies challenge the traditional relationship between photographs, meaning, and representation. Through case studies, hands-on experimentation, and in-depth discussions, participants investigate how techniques such as cutting, rearranging, decay, and color manipulation can unsettle images, prompting a process of unlearning entrenched discourses, canons, and assumptions. We position artistic photographic practice and material experimentation as tools for reflecting on critical issues such as coloniality, heteronormativity, exclusion, invisibility, and race. Students produce a collage, an appropriation/intervention, and a color manipulation work for group critique.
Course Level / Prerequisite: Open to all skill levels. Students ranging from beginner to experienced will be successful in classes that are Open to All Skill Levels.
Courses are subject to minimum enrollment. Please register early, within five days of the start-date, to reduce the likelihood of course cancellation and to ensure you receive all course-related materials in time to prepare for class.
