Framing Family

This course delves into the rich lineage of photographers who have imaged their families and homes. Students position themselves within this tradition as they explore the work of artists such as Latoya Ruby Frazier, Larry Sultan, Michael Marcelle, Nicholas Nixon, Danna Singer, Leigh Ledare, Charlie Engman, Elliott Jerome Brown Jr., Elinor Carucci, Richard Billingham, and more. Through weekly discussions, lectures, readings, and critique sessions, students develop a series of images depicting nuanced narratives of family, intimacy, and domestic life. This course explores the rewards and challenges of revealing our most personal relationships and spaces through photography.

Course Level / Prerequisite: Open to all skill levels. Students ranging from beginner to experienced will be successful in classes that are Open to All Skill Levels.
