Based on ideas suggested in two seminal writings on photography, John Szarkowski’s "The Photographer’s Eye" and Stephen Shore’s "The Nature of Photographs," this course functions as a manual of visual literacy for photographers. Through weekly photography assignments, lectures, and critiques, students learn about balance, tempo, ways of organizing space, the significance of geometric structure, and why the edges of the frame are important. We also cover how to make your pictures better and know which picture out of a set is the best and why. By removing the uncertainty you feel when evaluating your images, you’ll produce stronger, clearer pictures.

Course Level / Prerequisite: Open to all skill levels. Students ranging from beginner to experienced will be successful in classes that are Open to All Skill Levels.

Courses are subject to minimum enrollment. Please register early, within five days of the start-date, to reduce the likelihood of course cancellation and to ensure you receive all course-related materials in time to prepare for class.
