Exhibiting Your Photographs: From Concept to Production

Imagine the possibilities of exhibiting your work and acting as your own curator. In this course, emerging photographers conceptualize their images within an exhibition context. We experiment with creative and practical decisions involving editing, sequencing, printing, framing, design, and layout. We also visit contemporary photography exhibitions and analyze historical examples to examine trends and industry norms in presentation. Students have the opportunity to workshop their own written materials, including descriptions of their work and submissions for grants and exhibitions.

Course Level / Prerequisite: Advanced: You are comfortable with your camera, whether film or digital, and with your photographic practice. You have already produced or are working on a body of work. You are proficient in Adobe applications such as Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere, et cetera. You understand printing or portfolio revision processes. You may be seeking ways to strengthen your work through sequencing, theoretical readings, and group critiques.
