This course begins with the question: Are all photographs documents? We then delve into how photographic archives are recontextualized in contemporary art. Through the study of key artists, participants gain perspective on the multiple ways that photographic archives can shapeshift as documents. Examples include significant photographic sources from the SWANA region, and we focus on how archives can eventually be converted into decolonial tools. With the help of in-class assignments, exercises and discussions participants are invited to treat the archive as a space of conflict.
Course Level / Prerequisite: Open to all skill levels. Students ranging from beginner to experienced will be successful in classes that are Open to All Skill Levels.
Students are encouraged to review ICP'sClassroom Disclaimer for current information regarding COVID-19 policies, classroom guidelines, and more. These policies are subject to change at anytime.
