In this class we closely study and engage in critical conversations around selected photographs by classical and contemporary masters, including Susan Meiselas, Alex Webb and Yael MartĂnez as well as examples drawn from the participants’ own work. We consider the emotional, factual, symbolic and ethical meaning of these pictures with an emphasis on articulating the specific ways that photographs function and our responses to them. By looking very closely, we strengthen the critical and perceptual skills involved in both our understanding and how we make new work.
Course Level / Prerequisite: Open to all skill levels. Students ranging from beginner to experienced will be successful in classes that are Open to All Skill Levels.
Courses are subject to minimum enrollment. Please register early, within five days of the start-date, to reduce the likelihood of course cancellation and to ensure you receive all course-related materials in time to prepare for class.
