In this critique-based seminar, students expand their conception of photographable subject matter to make memorable images that celebrate, if not transform, the ordinary. Through prompts, short readings by photographers such as Paul Graham and Robert Adams, and introductions to the work of contemporary practitioners, including Gabriel Orozco and Jessica Backhaus, participants hone their visual perception, activate their curiosity, and cultivate presence of attention to discover the unseen, the unexpected, and the possibly the unknown. Attention is also placed on technique and elements of art to create harmonious compositions of aesthetic appeal. This course is limited to 12 students.
Note: All camera formats are welcome.
Prerequisite: Open to All Skill Levels: Students ranging from beginner to experienced will be successful in classes.
Courses are subject to minimum enrollment. Please register early, within five days of the start-date, to reduce the likelihood of course cancellation and to ensure you receive all course-related materials in time to prepare for class.
