What is sustainability and why does it matter to photography? In this online course we explore that question both through dialogue and photographic practice. We unpack how photography is a powerful tool for exploring sustainability challenges by working through how photography sits at the intersection between evidence and imagination. With visual documents we delve deeper into the normative aspects of sustainability and produce new photographic work that explores one’s relationship to the environments regularly engaged with. We discuss the work of many artists, photographers and writers, which include, but not limited to: Robert Adams, Barbara Bosworth, Binh Danh, Aldo Leopold and Donna Haraway. Ian van Coller and Mark Klett will join this course as Guest Speakers.
Prerequisite: Open to All Skill Levels: Students ranging from beginner to experienced will be successful in classes.
Courses are subject to minimum enrollment. Please register early, within five days of the start-date, to reduce the likelihood of course cancellation and to ensure you receive all course-related materials in time to prepare for class.
