Teen Academy - Developing Your Portfolio

Fall Tuition: $624

In this intermediate digital course, students will explore workflows for further developing a portfolio or body of work. Through individual assignments and critiques, students will discuss editing and sequencing their images for submission to colleges/universities, exhibitions, and awards. Students will expand upon ideas of theme, visual narrative, and image consistency and quality. All classes culminate with a presentation of photographic projects and writings shared with family and friends.

Prerequisite: Any level I Teen Academy course, or as approved by Teen Academy staff

Note: In order to participate, students will need access to a smartphone, DSLR or mirrorless camera, or digital point-and-shoot camera to complete assignments. Students receiving a scholarship will be provided with access to the necessary software to complete the course.

Courses are subject to minimum enrollment. Please register early, within five days of the start-date, to reduce the likelihood of course cancellation and to ensure you receive all course-related materials in time to prepare for class.

tamara suarez porras (she/they) is an artist, writer, and educator from (south) Brooklyn, NY, and based in the Bay Area. tamara's photo-conceptual practice examines experiences of knowing, remembering, and forgetting. tamara has exhibited nationally, including at the Brooklyn Museum, School at the International Center of Photography, En Foco Touring Gallery, and Deitch Projects in New York City, as well as fused space, Root Division, The Growlery, and Embark Gallery in San Francisco, CA. tamara's writing has been published on Art Practical, The Brooklyn Rail, and contemporary. tamara is a graduate of New York University's Tisch School of the Arts with a BFA in Photography+Imaging and Journalism and of California College of the Arts with a dual MFA/MA in Fine Arts and Visual and Critical Studies. tamara has taught at the International Center of Photography, University of San Francisco, California College of the Arts, and San Francisco Art Institute. tamara is currently the Manager of Educator Engagement at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
