From Personal Work to Assignment: How to Pitch Yourself in the Editorial World

Designed for emerging photographers seeking to break into editorial work—as well as working professionals looking to market themselves for higher-tier commissions—this five-week intensive demystifies the editorial assignment landscape. Through rigorous portfolio reviews, practical photographing exercises, and critical group discussions, students will gain direct insight into how photo editors evaluate work and translate personal projects into commissioned assignments. You will learn the mechanics of visual storytelling for publications, how to craft compelling pitches, and the keys to building long-term, sustainable relationships with art directors and editors. By the end of the course, you will leave with a polished strategy, an industry-ready pitch, and a clear roadmap for securing the assignments that support and elevate your practice. This class is limited to 8 students.

Course Level / Prerequisite: Open to all skill levels. Students ranging from beginner to experienced will be successful in classes that are Open to All Skill Levels.
