Print-to-Print: Gelatin Silver Printing with Digital Files

Gelatin silver printing is one of the most popular forms of photographic printing. How can a photographer explore this rich process with modern digital technologies? This course examines digital negative production as it relates to gelatin silver printing. Students arrive with their own digital files made with either a cell phone or dedicated digital camera. We then explore best practices for producing negatives of these files with an inkjet printer and creating gelatin silver prints from them in the darkroom. Students produce two to three 8x10-inch gelatin silver prints from inkjet-printed negatives. Note: Basic familiarity with both inkjet and gelatin silver printing is recommended.

Course Level / Prerequisite: Open to all skill levels. Students ranging from beginner to experienced will be successful in classes that are Open to All Skill Levels.
