Photography I: The Camera

This course introduces students to the fundamentals of digital photography. Students learn how to use their DSLR or mirrorless camera and control its settings, consider composition and visual strategies, and are introduced to organizing and editing images with Adobe Lightroom Classic software. Through photo assignments, lessons, and critique sessions, students explore both technical and aesthetic aspects of photography.

Note: This course takes place in ICP Digital Media Labs where students will have access to Adobe Creative Cloud software and will receive an additional 10 lab hours, to complete class work.

Course Level / Prerequisite: Beginner. No prior photography experience is needed for these foundation courses.

Please have your DSLR or mirrorless camera with you during the class sessions; prior to the first class, make sure the battery is fully charged and your memory card is in the camera and that you can turn the camera on and off and locate the menus. Have your camera's manual on hand for all sessions, either the printed booklet or a PDF download.
