Course Code: 21FCEPV0018

Dates: October 27 - December 15, 2021

Meets: W from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM ET

Fall Tuition: $500

This class focuses on the techniques and insights needed to make meaningful images of people in these difficult yet historical days of COVID-19. We consider a variety of ways to photograph individuals in diverse settings, such as our homes, our neighborhoods, and distant streets. With an emphasis on the idea of "working with intention" and the power of photography to reveal what often goes unseen, we also explore ways of organizing environmental elements to make persuasive statements regarding people. Through assignments and critiques, participants learn ways of capturing the character of their subject, approaching strangers from a distance, using light as an expressive and aesthetic element, and techniques of posing and interacting with their subjects, while keeping in mind social distancing measures.

Course Level / Prerequisite: Intermediate: You are familiar with a camera, whether film or digital. You understand aperture, shutter speed, exposure, white balance, histograms, and how to control focus. You are comfortable editing and processing your images. You may want to learn how to utilize your camera in a more thoughtful and articulate way, or learn more about lighting or how to utilize theoretical concepts in relation to your portfolio of work.

Note:This class is suitable for DSLRs or mirrorless or analog cameras.

Courses are subject to minimum enrollment. Please register early, within five days of the start-date, to reduce the likelihood of course cancellation and to ensure you receive all course-related materials in time to prepare for class.
