This course looks closely at expression, gesture, performance, and narrative in self-portraiture. Through weekly assignments, students experiment with different approaches to self-portraiture, become more comfortable in front of the camera lens, and develop a visual language to express themselves through their photographic work.

Course Level / Prerequisite: Open to all skill levels. Students ranging from beginner to experienced will be successful in classes that are Open to All Skill Levels.

Courses are subject to minimum enrollment. Please register early, within five days of the start-date, to reduce the likelihood of course cancellation and to ensure you receive all course-related materials in time to prepare for class.

For the first day of class please prepare a folder with your name on it. In the folder please add 2-5 of your best successes and 2-5 of your images that you feel are failures. These can be self portraits or other portraits you've taken that show your style. Also add 2-5 examples (jpgs) of other artist's works that you love and 2-5 that you don't. (These can be photographs, paintings, or any other two dimensional works). The instructor will be in touch with a request to send the folder a few days before the class starts.
