Dates: March 1 - April 12, 2023
Meets: W from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM ET
Location: ICP (84 Ludlow Street)
Course Tuition: $650
This course introduces participants to a variety of methods for creating unique gelatin silver prints. We begin by learning to make photograms with an enlarger, and then transition to experimental photograms made with alternate light sources and materials. By working in this unrestrained manner, students develop an understanding of how to expose and print more intuitively, bring more expression into their work, and find ways of tapping into internal inspiration. They also delve into new ways of looking at and making photographs, and are encouraged to follow what inspires them as well as experiment to their heart's delight.
Course Level / Prerequisite: Open to all skill levels. Students ranging from beginner to experienced will be successful in classes that are Open to All Skill Levels.

Students are advised to bring in materials to use for their photograms, and an open mind. For the beginning of class, they won't need to worry about alternative light sources, but are encouraged to start looking for flashlights, candles, or other sources they might want to use. They can choose other materials, but some good ones to start out with are flowers or plants, lace, foil and/or Saran Wrap. [The instructor will advise students on additional materials, as they progress.]While it is not required, it would be helpful if they would bring in a series of either prints or a laptop/iPad to show prior work, so the instructor has a general idea of their printing background/artistic leanings, and can determine how to beginning guiding them towards their vision. A brief statement is also welcome, but not required.
