There is a long and rich history of black-and-white film portraits in photography. Working with natural and artificial light in the studio and on location, students explore the traditions and process of black-and-white film portraiture, learning about essential decisions involving context, focus, and framing. The class learns techniques for directing photographic subjects and composing images to create a more compelling portrait. The class also includes technical instruction on different types of film available, camera ASA, and metering.
